Lots of typos... Good knowledge of guns... A bit wordy on decriptions... Hard to get through the hunting stuff if you are an animal lover...
I really enjoyed the book. A good old fashioned western was just the ticket. I know the author and looked up to him while growing up. He is truly connected to the outdoors. Thanks Bob!!!
Finally a good read about the old west and Cowboys. I should have been a cowboy but had to grow up and support a family. Reading this book about Winchester 1873 and believable western action was refreshing. I could tell Jones knows about horses and cowboy life. I once owned two 1873 Winchester's one of them in 44 caliber. The book made me wish I still had them. Highly recommended book.
Robert D Jones is very knowledgable in western history and does a great job when decribing items that are relivant to the time period. Outstanding ending, I was not expecting the ending and Jones really reeled me in. I have given this book as a gift several times and recommend to anyone that enjoys western reading.
I received a signed copy of this directly from the author who I knew growing up in grade and high school. I finished reading it today and really enjoyed it! I could see some influences from Lonesome Dove perhaps? Anyway, the stories kept me interested and in some places were quite graphic. Sounds like Bob did some research or may have experienced some of the things in the book? I would recommend this to anyone interested in Western history or western fiction.
